Fun Boss on Bush

I’m answering another question posted on Aircraft Carriers on Facebook: Can a DoD civilian work on an aircraft carrier? Yes!

While I was aboard USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), which was conducting training exercises off the East Coast, there were scores of other contractors who were doing repairs, testing systems and, like me, touring the ship. But there are other civilians working on board who work when deployed overseas: the Fun Boss and the Fit Boss.

(The basketball court is being set up)

I met the current Fun Boss on Bush, Joshua Watson, who set up a basketball court and encouraged all on the ship to participate in pick-up half- and full-court games.

Through the Civilian Afloat Program, the Fun Boss and Fit Boss “work together in providing fitness and recreation programs for shipboard sailors,” according to a NavyFitness.org. If you’d like to be a Fun Boss or Fit Boss, there’s a job application on that site as well.
