Oct. 17, 1922 was an important day in aircraft carrier history. Lieutenant Commander Virgil C. Griffin made the first carrier takeoff from a U.S. Navy carrier, the USS Langley (CV-1), anchored in York River, Virginia.
We’re sure Lt. Commander Griffin would be awed and impressed if he saw the launchings and captures on today’s carriers.
