On February 13, 1988 the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) was christened and launched during a ceremony at Newport News Shipbuilding (top).

Since her commissioning in 1989, Lincoln and her crew have provided outstanding service to the nation around the globe in support of U.S. combat, humanitarian and diplomatic missions. While deployed in 2012, aircraft from Lincoln flew more than 11,000 sorties totaling in excess of 32,000 flight hours, including more than 2,400 combat sorties and more than 14,000 hours flown in support of U.S. and coalition ground forces supporting Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
